Account Deletion

Delete your Vocabary account

Effective date: October 10, 2026

Short version: You can delete your account from inside the app in a few taps. If you cannot reach the app, write to info@vocabary.com. Your account closes immediately; your backed-up data is held for 30 days and then permanently deleted.

An account is optional in Vocabary: the app is fully usable without one. Deleting your account does not stop you from using the app.

1. Delete from inside the app

This is the fastest way, and you start it yourself:

  1. Open the Vocabary app and make sure you are signed in.
  2. Go to the Profile tab in the bottom menu.
  3. Open the Account section.
  4. Tap Delete account.
  5. Read the warning and confirm. You may be asked to verify your identity for security.

Your account closes and your session ends as soon as you confirm. The app keeps working without an account.

The data on your device is not deleted. Deleting your account does not touch the lists on your phone; if you want a copy, you can export the data in your account before deleting it. Permanent deletion cannot be undone.

2. If you cannot reach the app: request by email

If you changed phones, uninstalled the app or cannot sign in for any reason, you can send us the request:

Addressinfo@vocabary.com
SubjectAccount deletion
Sent fromThe email address your account was created with

Please send the request from your account email address: this is how we verify identity so that nobody can close someone else's account. If you have to write from a different address, say so and we may ask for extra information to verify the account.

We process requests within 30 days at the latest and write back with the outcome. Once deletion starts, the timetable below applies.

3. What is deleted, and when

WhatWhat happensWhen
Your accountClosed, sessions endedImmediately on request
Signing in againNot possible — the account is closed as soon as deletion startsImmediately
Account details (email, name, phone, language preference, registration and sign-in dates)Permanently deletedAfter 30 days
Backed-up study data (sets, words, review history, streak, badges, synced preferences)Permanently deletedAfter 30 days
Technical traces of deleted records (deletion markers, sync records)PrunedWithin 180 days at the latest

If there is a record we are legally required to keep, only that record is kept and only for as long as required; it is not used for any other purpose.

4. Data on your device is separate

Because Vocabary works without an account, your lists and study history always live on your device as well. The two places are independent:

  • Deleting your account does not delete the lists on your device. The app keeps working with the same data, without an account.
  • Deleting the app from your device does not close your account. The backup on the server stays; to close the account, use one of the two ways above.

If you also want to remove the data on your device: on Android go to Settings → Apps → Vocabary → Storage → Clear data; on iPhone, delete the app. If your phone's own backup is enabled (Google Backup or iCloud), your data may come back from that backup; the details are in the Privacy Policy.

5. Questions and contact

For anything about your deletion request, the deleted data or privacy in general, write to us: info@vocabary.com

How your data is processed is explained in the Privacy Policy, and the rules for accounts are in the Terms of Use.
